Key result
Adrenaline for transfusion-related anaphylaxis is linked to developing the ATAK complex.
Why the study?
The adrenaline-takotsubo-anaphylaxis-Kounis (ATAK) complex, involving overlaps between takotsubo and Kounis syndromes, was recently described but its occurrence after transfusion is not well characterized.
Case Report (n=3)
May signal ATAK complex risk after transfusion plus adrenaline; hypothesis-generating and requires prospective confirmation.

Krishna G. Badami (2022) conducted a case report in Adrenaline-takotsubo-anaphylaxis-Kounis (ATAK) complex (n=3). Blood transfusion and adrenaline treatment was evaluated on Development of acute left ventricular failure or transfusion-associated circulatory overload, and features suggestive of takotsubo cardiomyopathy. Blood transfusion followed by adrenaline treatment for severe allergic reaction was associated with the development of the adrenaline-takotsubo-anaphylaxis-Kounis (ATAK) complex in three patients.
