Key result
Noninvasive systolic index is associated with ~23% higher hemodynamic change detection vs SBP.
Why the study?
The study aimed to evaluate the systolic index as a noninvasive method to assess cardiac function in patients with DDD and CRT pacemakers, comparing its accuracy and sensitivity to other hemodynamic measures.

May improve noninvasive hemodynamic monitoring during pacemaker optimization; hypothesis-generating and requires prospective validation before clinical adoption.
Chirife et al. (2013) conducted an observational in Patients with DDD and cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) pacemakers (n=55). Systolic index (SI) vs. Systolic blood pressure (SBP) was evaluated on Detection of hemodynamic changes during atrioventricular transitions (p=0.005). The noninvasive systolic index detected 81% of hemodynamic changes during atrioventricular transitions compared to 66% for systolic blood pressure (P = 0.005).
