The article examines the improvement of a methodology for developing school students’ self-directed learning competence through modern pedagogical technologies. The motivational-goal, cognitive-information, activity-based and reflective components of the competence are specified. Problem-based learning, project work, flipped classroom, collaborative learning, digital resources and e-portfolio are integrated into a single methodological cycle. The proposed model supports students in setting learning goals, searching and evaluating information, selecting individual learning strategies, assessing outcomes and reflecting on their progress, while the teacher acts as a facilitator and consultant.
