Carvedilol improves ventricular remodelling in hypertensive heart failure despite persistent central adrenergic activation.
Why the study?
The influence of heart failure aetiology on autonomic modulation and reverse ventricular remodelling induced by beta-blockade was unclear.
Cohort (n=23)

Suggests etiology-specific carvedilol responses in HF; leaves open whether persistent activation in hypertensive patients warrants targeted interventions.
Malfatto et al. (2007) conducted a cohort in heart failure (n=23). carvedilol vs. baseline was evaluated on ventricular remodelling and autonomic modulation. After 6 months of carvedilol, hypertensive heart failure patients showed favourable ventricular remodelling but persistent central adrenergic activation compared to ischaemic and idiopathic patients.
