Key result
Cardiac tumor resection is linked to durable survival for benign tumors but 100% early malignant mortality.
Why the study?
Primary cardiac tumors are very rare and the majority are histologically benign and surgically curable, but detailed surgical experience over a long period is limited.
Population
45 patients with primary cardiac tumors undergoing surgery at National Taiwan University Hospital from 1963 to 1993
Design
Observational surgical case series

Rare primary cardiac tumors are mostly benign and resectable; leaves open contemporary incidence and outcomes.
Observational (n=45)
No
Yi et al. (1995) conducted an observational in Primary cardiac tumors (n=45). Surgical excision was evaluated on Postoperative mortality and recurrence. Surgical excision of primary cardiac tumors yielded excellent long-term results for benign tumors (94% of cases), whereas all 3 patients with malignant tumors died early postoperatively.
