Key result
Post-general anesthesia hypoxia affects ~10% of respiratory patients at 5 minutes, resolving by 15 minutes.
Why the study?
Patients with respiratory comorbidities have a higher risk of respiratory complications after general anesthesia, and the relationship between oxygen saturation and these comorbidities post-anesthesia needed investigation.
Observational (n=60)
No
Hypoxia following general anesthesia in patients with underlying respiratory conditions predominantly occurs within the first 5 minutes of recovery, emphasizing the critical need for immediate early post-operative oxygen monitoring.
