Comments on the article by M. Campione and T. Joiner (see record 2027-58493-001) on the troubling growth of Canada's medical assistance in dying (MAID) program. The commenting authors echo and expand upon the concerns raised by Campione and Joiner. Canadian MAID expansion is not only concerning for Canadians but also influencing debates internationally, including in England and Scotland, where legislators may erroneously conclude that such expansion is safe and justifiable if a respected peer has already enacted it. Clinicians in Canada now have a dual role, where they are simultaneously expected to prevent suicide and assist it. This is a quagmire that deserves a careful rethink.
