Objective: to improve methods of computer-aided design of railway routes based on the use of visual analytics. Methods: mathematical modeling, visual analysis, and optimization methods were applied. Results: the problems associated with using the classical grapho‑analytical alignment method in the automated design of railways were examined. Interactive alignment methods based on a digital terrain model are proposed, leveraging the technological integration of analytical calculations and the visualization of their results in real time. The implementation of the proposed methods will make it possible to switch from traditional graphoanalytical railway design in separate projections of the plan and the longitudinal profile of the route to interactive spatial tracing. Practical significance: the use of these methods in computeraided railway design will allow for a visual rapid assessment of design solutions, which will reduce the complexity of variable tracing by reducing the number of iterations and the time to complete them.
