Heterotopic transcatheter tricuspid valve replacement improves 6-month heart failure symptoms in carcinoid heart disease.
Why the study?
Carcinoid heart disease causes severe tricuspid regurgitation with challenging valve anatomy, limiting conventional surgical and transcatheter treatment options.
Case Report (n=1)
May offer symptom relief in prohibitive-risk carcinoid heart disease; hypothesis-generating and requires prospective validation.
Neuroendocrine tumors can lead to carcinoid heart disease with subsequent development of severe tricuspid regurgitation due to thickening and restriction of the tricuspid leaflets. We present a patient who underwent successful heterotopic transcatheter tricuspid valve replacement for torrential tricuspid regurgitation due to carcinoid heart disease. (Level of Difficulty: Intermediate.)

Stolz et al. (2022) conducted a case report in Carcinoid heart disease with torrential tricuspid regurgitation (n=1). Heterotopic transcatheter tricuspid valve replacement (TricValve system) was evaluated on Improvement in heart failure symptoms and right ventricular parameters. Heterotopic transcatheter tricuspid valve replacement successfully improved heart failure symptoms, NYHA class, and quality of life at 6 months in a patient with carcinoid heart disease.
