Devi et al. first reported piezoelectricity in the pyrochlore metal Cd 2 Re 2 O 7 . They showed that anisotropic signals track symmetry changes associated with the electric toroidal quadrupole order and that piezoelectricity can sensitively detect hidden inversion-symmetry breaking.
