Surgical repair successfully treats rare tetralogy of Fallot combined with a giant right atrium.
Why the study?
The association of a giant right atrium with uncorrected tetralogy of Fallot is extremely rare and can cause additional clinical complications.
Case Report (n=1)
This report highlights the successful surgical management, including reduction atrioplasty, of an extremely rare presentation of a giant right atrium in an adolescent with uncorrected tetralogy of Fallot.
May inform surgical planning for giant right atrium in uncorrected tetralogy of Fallot; hypothesis-generating and leaves open generalizability.
Uncorrected tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) can be associated with widespread abnormalities, but the giant right atrium (RA) is an extremely rare one. The giant RA can cause additional problems causing atrial arrythmias, thromboembolism, and compression of adjacent structures. Tricuspid regurgitation is common with annular dilatation. In symptomatic cases, reduction atrioplasty is recommended. Sternotomy should be careful to avoid damage to the giant RA. In asymptomatic cases, anticoagulation should be carried out. We report a rare case of uncorrected TOF associated with the giant RA and got successfully treated with surgery.

Maiti et al. (2026) conducted a case report in Uncorrected Tetralogy of Fallot with Giant Right Atrium (n=1). Surgery was evaluated on Treatment success. Surgical intervention successfully treated an adolescent male patient presenting with an extremely rare association of uncorrected tetralogy of Fallot and a giant right atrium.
