Key result
Genetically predicted glaucoma shows no causal association with risk of stroke.
Why the study?
Previous clinical reports suggested associations between glaucoma and stroke risk, but causal relationships remained uncertain.
Observational (n=1,312)
Odds Ratio: 1.01 (95% CI 0.99–1.04)
p-value: p=0.28
No causal glaucoma-stroke link supports shared vascular risks as driver; leaves open refined confounder adjustment in future observational analyses.

Kelly et al. (2018) conducted an observational in Glaucoma and Stroke (n=1,312). Glaucoma vs. No glaucoma was evaluated on Risk of stroke (Mendelian randomization IVW multitrait analysis) (OR 1.01, 95% CI 0.99-1.04, p=0.28). Genetically predicted glaucoma showed no significant causal association with the risk of stroke (OR 1.01), suggesting that observed clinical correlations are likely driven by shared vascular risk factors rather than a direct causal effect.
