Leadless pacemaker implantation proves feasible in a patient with a left-sided IVC.
Why the study?
There are no prior case reports of successful leadless pacemaker implantation via a left-sided inferior vena cava anatomical variant.
Case Report (n=1)
This case report provides evidence that leadless pacemaker implantation is feasible even in patients with the rare left-sided inferior vena cava anatomical variant.
Supports feasibility via left-sided IVC in this case; hypothesis-generating and should not yet change practice.
A left-sided inferior vena cava (IVC) is 1 of the anatomical variants of IVC. The prevalence of left-sided IVC in the population ranges from 0.1% to 0.4%.1,2 Several studies have reported successful catheter ablation from right femoral access via the left-sided IVC without complications.3,4 However, to our knowledge, there are no case reports of successful implantation of a leadless pacemaker (LP) via a left-sided IVC.

Tanaka et al. (2026) conducted a case report in Left-sided inferior vena cava (n=1). Leadless pacemaker implantation was evaluated. Leadless pacemaker implantation was successfully described in 1 patient with a left-sided inferior vena cava.
