Catheter ablation successfully eliminates ventricular tachycardia after epicardial biologic ventricular assist tissue transplantation.
Why the study?
The clinical application of tissue-engineered myocardial therapies for advanced heart failure is emerging, but data on catheter ablation of ventricular tachycardia after biologic ventricular assist tissue transplantation are limited.
Case Report
This report demonstrates the feasibility of performing catheter ablation for ventricular tachycardia in patients who have received tissue-engineered myocardial therapies such as BioVAT.
Recent advances in regenerative medicine have enabled the clinical application of tissue-engineered myocardial therapies for advanced heart failure. The recently published interim data of the BioVAT-HF trial demonstrated the feasibility of epicardial transplantation of biologic ventricular assist tissue (BioVAT) constructed from induced pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes and stromal cells in patients with severe left ventricular dysfunction.1
