Atrial septostomy reduces mean left atrial pressure ~42% in stiff left atrial syndrome.
Why the study?
Does atrial septostomy improve hemodynamics and reduce symptoms in patients with stiff left atrial syndrome refractory to medical therapy?
Case Report (n=1)
No
Does atrial septostomy improve hemodynamics and reduce symptoms in patients with stiff left atrial syndrome refractory to medical therapy?
Effect estimate: 42% reduction
Absolute Event Rate: 15% vs 26%

Eren et al. (2026) conducted a case report in Stiff left atrial syndrome (n=1). Atrial septostomy vs. Baseline (prior to procedure) was evaluated on Mean left atrial pressure (42% reduction). Atrial septostomy reduced mean left atrial pressure by 42% (from 26 mmHg to 15 mmHg) and provided immediate and sustained symptomatic improvement over 2 years in a patient with stiff left atrial syndrome.
