Recent revascularization advances improve ACS outcomes in hemodialysis patients facing severe coronary calcification.
Why the study?
The number of chronic renal failure patients undergoing hemodialysis is increasing, and ischemic heart disease including ACS is the leading cause of death in these patients due to multiple specific coronary risk factors.
ESRD patients on hemodialysis retain high ACS mortality from calcification; leaves open targeted trials of calcification-specific therapies.

Tanaka et al. (2006) conducted a review in Acute coronary syndrome in chronic renal failure and hemodialysis. Patients with end-stage renal disease on hemodialysis face high mortality from acute coronary syndromes due to severe coronary calcification, though recent revascularization advances have improved prognosis.
