A 73-year-old woman developed cerebral hyperperfusion syndrome presenting with seizures after surgical correction of severe aortic stenosis, which was successfully treated with intensive care.
Why the study?
Cerebral hyperperfusion syndrome is a life-threatening cause of postoperative cerebral dysfunction after surgical reconstruction of arterial vascular beds feeding the brain, requiring timely detection and interdisciplinary management.
Case Report (n=1)
No
Highlights the rare occurrence of life-threatening cerebral hyperperfusion syndrome following aortic valve replacement and emphasizes timely diagnosis and multidisciplinary management.
Highlights This article presents a clinical case of the development of cerebral hyperperfusion syndrome in a patient after surgical correction of severe aortic stenosis via mini-sternotomy. Abstract Cerebral hyperperfusion syndrome is one of the causes of postoperative cerebral dysfunction development. The syndrome arises as a consequence of an increase in cerebral blood flow velocity after surgical reconstruction or revascularization of the arterial vascular bed that feeds the brain. This is a life-threatening condition that requires timely detection, accurate differential diagnosis and an interdisciplinary team approach. The article presents a case of successful treatment of a patient with cerebral hyperperfusion syndrome developed after surgical correction of severe aortic stenosis.

Gaisin et al. (2025) conducted a case report in Severe aortic stenosis (n=1). Surgical correction of severe aortic stenosis via mini-sternotomy was evaluated on Development and resolution of postoperative cerebral hyperperfusion syndrome. A 73-year-old woman developed cerebral hyperperfusion syndrome presenting with seizures after surgical correction of severe aortic stenosis, which was successfully treated with intensive care.
