Why the study?
AF is closely associated with comorbidities and lifestyle factors that influence its development, progression, and outcomes, requiring systematic and comprehensive management adapted to the diverse contexts of the Asia Pacific region.
Provides the 2026 Asia Pacific Heart Rhythm Society guidelines emphasizing the systematic management of comorbidities and lifestyle risk factors as a core component of atrial fibrillation care adapted to diverse Asia Pacific contexts.
Supports guideline-directed lifestyle and comorbidity management in AF; leaves open optimal regional implementation strategies.
Atrial fibrillation (AF) is closely associated with comorbidities and lifestyle factors that influence the development, progression, and outcomes. Here the focus is on guidelines for the systematic management of hypertension, heart failure, coronary and structural heart disease, diabetes, dyslipidemia, cerebrovascular disease, obesity, chronic kidney disease, thyroid dysfunction, inflammatory disease, cancer and frailty. In addition, it provides guidelines for lifestyle factors such as nutrition, physical activity, alcohol consumption, tobacco use, sleep and psychological health as key components of AF care. Finally, multimorbidity, polypharmacy and the diverse clinical, cultural, socioeconomic and healthcare contexts of the Asia Pacific region are also addressed. Particular focus is driven by evidence to support the comprehensive management of lifestyle factors as a core component of AF care with equitable access adapted to local resources and patient needs.

Choi et al. (2026) studied Atrial fibrillation. Comprehensive lifestyle risk factor and comorbidity management was evaluated. The 2026 APHRS guidelines provide evidence-based recommendations for comprehensive management of comorbidities and lifestyle risk factors as core components of atrial fibrillation care.
