Online surveys have become one of the most widely used methods for collecting primary data in business and management research. However, designing, administering, and reporting online surveys in a methodologically rigorous manner remains challenging for many researchers. The objectives of this editorial are twofold. First, we review the advantages, methodological challenges, and commonly used approaches to online data collection. Second, we provide practical recommendations covering the entire online survey process, including survey platform selection, online questionnaire design, pretesting, data collection, response rate management, and reporting practices. In doing so, this editorial brings together methodological recommendations and practical insights into a single resource to help researchers design, conduct, and report online survey research more rigorously and transparently.
