Mustika Retna's dance piece is inspired by the spatial characteristics and way of life of the community in Wotawati Hamlet, Pucung Village, Gunungkidul Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta. Wotawati Hamlet is geographically unique, situated in a valley surrounded by hills, and its community upholds the values of togetherness and mutual cooperation. These conditions serve as the experiential foundation interpreted within Mustika Retna's dance piece. This study aims to describe how the spatial characteristics and beauty of Wotawati Hamlet are interpreted through the medium of dance performance. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method with an artistic-interpretive approach, utilizing data collection techniques such as observation, in-depth interviews, literature review, and documentation. The analysis of the work draws on the methods of artistic creation proposed by Jacqueline Smith-Autard. The results of the study indicate that the space of Wotawati Hamlet is interpreted in three dimensions: (1) physical space, manifested through the characteristics of the surrounding landscape; (2) social space, representing the values of mutual cooperation and togetherness; and (3) spiritual space, expressed through rituals, prayers, and gratitude. The beauty of Wotawati Hamlet is interpreted not only through theits natural landscape but also through the values of community life. This interpretation is realized through dramatic structure, movement, characterization, props, and musical composition that build a journey of atmosphere—from challenges, efforts, and prayers to a sense of gratitude. Thus, Mustika Retna's dance piece is an artistic interpretation of the space and way of life in Wotawati Hamlet that not only showcases natural beauty but also represents the values of togetherness, mutual cooperation, rituals, prayer, and gratitude through the medium of dance.
