This article presents field research conducted in the municipal public school system of Timon (MA), aiming to analyze the educational assessment policies adopted and the effects of their results on management and pedagogical practices. The study investigates, from 2013 to 2023, how data from large-scale external assessments, especially the SAEB (National Basic Education Assessment System), have been used to guide actions aimed at improving the teaching and learning process, teacher training, and educational management. Based on the perspective of didactics as a central element for the quality of education, the work discusses the relationship between assessment, planning, and teaching practice. The results show progress in the network's educational indicators, such as the evolution of the IDEB (Basic Education Development Index) and proficiency in Portuguese Language and Mathematics. However, they also point to challenges related to the appropriation and effective use of this data by managers and teachers. It is concluded that the qualified use of evaluation results is essential for improving public policies and for building more effective, equitable, and transformative pedagogical practices.
