This study aims to analyze the role of the leadership of the Nahdlatul Wathan Samawa Islamic Boarding School in improving the quality of educational institutions in Sumbawa Regency. The study employs a descriptive qualitative approach using field research methods. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and were subsequently analyzed using data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion-drawing techniques. Data validity was ensured through rigorous data collection and triangulation. The results indicate that the leadership of the Nahdlatul Wathan Samawa Islamic Boarding School plays a strategic role as a policy-maker, motivator, mentor, innovator, and role model in the development of educational institutions. The leadership strategies implemented include formulating a vision and work programs focused on quality, enhancing the competencies of teachers and educational staff, strengthening institutional management, developing facilities and infrastructure, and building partnerships with the community. The implementation of these strategies has had a positive impact on improving the quality of the educational institution, as evidenced by the provision of education across all levels—from RA to MA—serving a total of 532 students, as well as increased community trust in the institution. Factors supporting the success of leadership include the commitment of the leadership, cooperation among all members of the pesantren community, a religious organizational culture, and community support. Conversely, inhibiting factors include budget constraints, the need to improve educators’ competencies, technological advancements, and changes in education policy. Thus, visionary, participatory, and adaptive leadership are the key factors in improving the quality of educational institutions at the Nahdlatul Wathan Samawa Islamic Boarding School.
