AbstractThis study explores the spirituality of street buskers in Central Banjarmasin as resilient theological subjects in the context of urban poverty in Indonesia. Adopting an ethnographic-phenomenological approach interpreted through Gustavo Gutiérrez’s Liberation Theology and Nancy T. Ammerman’s Lived Religion, the research reveals the transformation of profane street spaces into locus theologicus. Through participant observation and in-depth interviews with six buskers during October–December 2025, a unique “resilient spirituality” is uncovered: (1) the street as a liturgical space where selawat and songs become prayers; (2) vulnerable bodies as theological texts resisting dehumanization; (3) sabar (patience) as a moral strategy against structural stigma; and (4) communal solidarity as an orthopraxis. This article argues [1.1] that buskers’ spirituality serves as a contextual critique of institutional theology, urging an inclusive understanding of divinity that favors the marginalized in contemporary Indonesian society, in line with the demands of contextual theology to reflect socio-cultural-religious realities.
