Academic writing requires accurate, consistent, and accountable references. Manual reference management may lead to metadata errors, inconsistent citation styles, and incomplete bibliographies. This conceptual article explains the meaning of Mendeley, the stages of using it in academic writing, and its advantages and limitations. The discussion is based on a descriptive review of the sources cited in the original paper. The review indicates that Mendeley can help users collect and organize references, read and annotate PDF documents, insert citations through word-processing integration, and generate bibliographies according to a selected citation style. However, the application still requires manual checking because imported metadata may be inaccurate and some synchronization functions depend on internet access. Therefore, Mendeley can improve the efficiency of academic writing, but it does not replace authors’ responsibility to verify sources, check citation accuracy, and maintain academic integrity.
