Academic writing requires accurate and traceable references. Manual reference management can result in incomplete bibliographic data, inconsistent citation styles, and errors in reference lists. This article aims to discuss the use of Mendeley in reference management and academic writing, including its main functions, stages of use, benefits, and limitations. The article uses a descriptive qualitative literature-study approach based on relevant academic sources cited in the paper. The discussion indicates that Mendeley can support the collection and organization of references, PDF reading and annotation, in-text citation, and bibliography generation. However, automatically imported metadata may be inaccurate, and citation output still needs to be checked against the original sources and the target journal’s guidelines. Mendeley is therefore a technical aid rather than a substitute for critical reading, source verification, and academic integrity.
