Platydialepis frontimaculata Cui, Li & Ma sp. nov. Figs 4, 6E – H Type material. Holotype. China • ♂; Hubei, Shennongjia Forestry District; 31.55°N, 110.36°E; 2003.VII.16; Wenkai Wang leg.; YNAU. Paratypes. China • 6 ♂; same data as holotype • 3 ♂; same location as holotype; 2003.VII.17; Wenqing Wang leg.; YNAU • 1 ♂; Henan, Luoyang, Luanchuan County; 33.68°N, 111.78°E; 1996.VII.13; Jien Xu leg.; YNAU. Diagnosis. The new species is similar to P. ryoheii, but differs from it by the following characteristics (characters of P. ryoheii in parentheses): Male: aedeagus slightly constricted subapically and acute at apex (aedeagus distinctly constricted subapically, apex swollen and rounded); body covered with silvery pubescence (body covered with golden pubescence); S 5 and S 6 bearing one tuft of dark brown long setae subapically (S 5 and S 6 bearing one tuft of yellowish-brown long setae subapically); clypeus black, with one brownish spot on inner margin of each compound eye, without yellow maculae (clypeus yellow, spot on inner margin of each compound eye yellow, sometimes maculae on mesosoma and legs yellow). Female. Unknown. The new species differs from P. amamiensis by male hind tibia without scale-like teeth dorsally; body with silvery pubescence; aedeagus apex acute. The new species differs from P. taiwaniana, P. crinita, P. hobbyi and P. junctella by male S 5 and S 6 with long setal tufts subapically. Description of male. Body length 10–15 mm, forewing length 12 mm. Body black; inner margin of each compound eye with one brownish spot; labial and maxillary palpus yellowish-brown; mandibles yellowish-brown except apically reddish-brown. Wings pale yellow, hyaline; outer margin of forewing sometimes with indistinct dark narrow stripe. Inner margin of compound eyes and clypeus densely covered with soft silvery pubescence; head and mesosoma with erect, long, silvery setae; T 5 and T 6 covered with dense, short, brown bristles; S 5 and S 6 with one tuft of long, dark brown setae subapically. Head. Mandible with one inner tooth; maxillary palpus with fourth segment 1.2–1.3 times as long as third; clypeus with apical margin slightly bisinuate, 1.7–1.8 times as wide as long (Fig. 4 B); labrum usually concealed under clypeus, apical margin slightly emarginate medially; frons flat between eye and antennal socket above; eyes slightly convergent dorsally, nearly parallel ventrally (Fig. 4 B); UID: MID: LID = 37: 41: 39; ocellar triangle distinctly elevated, ocelli arranged in one acute triangle, anterior ocellus larger than hind ocelli (Fig. 4 D); vertex nearly flat, ocellar area slightly elevated (Fig. 4 B); in lateral view, width of gena to eye = 10: 20; HW: HL = 73: 63; POD: OOD = 12: 4; ratio of antennal scape, pedicel, and LF 1 = 5: 20: 31, F 1 3.4–3.5 times as long as its greatest width (Fig. 4 C). Mesosoma. Pronotum shorter than mesoscutum, its posterior margin obtusely emarginate (Fig. 4 E); mesoscutum with parapsidal sulcus extending from posterior margin to about 2 / 3 of its length; scutellum and median portion of metanotum slightly elevated; metapostnotum with median depression reaching anterior margin, with fine transverse striae on both sides medially; propodeum flat in lateral view, flattened apically, entire surface densely covered with coarse punctures and fine transverse rugae, with one indistinct shallow longitudinal groove medially (Fig. 4 G). Wings. Forewing with three submarginal cells; 1 m-cu received by SMC 2 beyond midpoint, at 0.5–0.7 of cell length from base; 2 m-cu received by SMC 3 before midpoint, at 0.3–0.4 from base; length of SMC 3 on M 1.4–1.5 times that of SMC 2; upper margin of SMC 3 1.0–1.1 times as long as that of SMC 2; distance from SMC 3 to outer margin shorter than its own length; marginal cell fusiform, acute apically; M not reaching wing margin (Fig. 4 H); hind wing cu-a arising from or slightly beyond fork of M + CuA (Fig. 4 I). Legs. Only tibiae and tarsi with short spines, tarsomere V without spines ventrally; hind tibia without scale-like teeth dorsally; fore tarsal claws modified, inner and outer claws asymmetrical: inner tooth of outer claw longer and acute apically than that of inner claw (Fig. 4 J); inner tooth of inner claw broad and truncate apically (Fig. 4 K); outer tooth of outer claw longer and curved than that of inner claw; mid tarsal claws with one tooth; hind tarsal claws thickened at base, with one basal tooth. Metasoma. T 1 elongate, narrowed basally, apical width about twice that of base; T 1 with lateral crease; S 2 without transverse groove (Fig. 4 F). Subgenital plate. Apex slightly emarginate; lateral margins with long setae, slightly concave near base; ventral surface setose, with one weak carina medially; on ventral surface near base, two carinae present on both sides of middle, converging towards apex; basal sides with wavy setae (Fig. 6 E). Genitalia. Parameter of squama with one subtriangular expansion near middle of inner ventral margin; raised area, outer side, and dorsal margin with dense long setae. Digitus curved inward at middle, strongly twisted and concave subapically, with appressed setae at apex; parapeniale lobe slender in middle, apex rounded and slightly expanded, and its length exceeding apex of aedeagus; aedeagus slightly constricted subapically, apex slightly expanded, with one pointed projection apically (Fig. 6 F). Female. Unknown. Etymology. The name frontimaculata, derived from the Latin words front - (= front) and maculata (= spotted), referring the male frons with two spots, one of the main recognition characters of this species. Distribution. China (Henan, Hubei). Remarks. Male of P. frontimaculata sp. nov. described here could not be confidently associated with any known female, including females of P. flavipectoralis sp. nov. and P. prominula sp. nov. described in this study. This conclusion is supported by following evidence: P. frontimaculata sp. nov. possesses unique combination of characters — clypeus black; median clypeal lobe distinctly produced; body densely covered with silvery setae; S 5 and S 6 with subapical tufts of long, erect setae; and upper frons flat in dorsal view. This character combination differs markedly from those of other known species with unassociated males, including P. flavipectoralis sp. nov. and P. prominula sp. nov. Although the male resembles P. ryoheii in general habitus, its male genitalia are distinctly different in morphology. These differences are considered sufficient to recognize the male as a distinct new species rather than as the unknown male of any previously described species, including P. flavipectoralis sp. nov. and P. prominula sp. nov.
