This research explores personnel attitudes toward Quality Standards System (QSS) implementation, specifically focusing on ISO 9001, within a selected maritime education and training institution (METI). Key perceptions, enablers, and barriers to effective QSS implementation in a specialised maritime academic environment are identified. In-depth interviews were conducted with 26 purposively selected informants from both management and operational levels using a qualitative approach. Data were analysed through thematic analysis. The results indicate a dual perception regarding the value of QSS and ISO 9001 in enhancing organisational systems and work quality. Success is primarily driven by the human factor. Key enablers include strong leadership and continuous personnel capability enhancement, whereas primary barriers involve documentation burden, resource constraints, and contextual mismatches between industrial ISO terminology and academic operations. Acceptance improves when the system is lean, digitised, and adapted to the educational context.
