Neanthes unifasciata as heteronereids locally known as ‘ laor / wawo ’. RCLA.Ann.020 (4 males) and RCLA.Ann.021 (6 females), collected by Joko Pamungkas on 19 March 2014 from Ambon Island: Allang Village, West Leihitu District, Central Maluku Regency, Maluku Province (03°46'18.2"S, 128°00'24.6"E); RCLA.Ann.022 (10 males) and RCLA.Ann.023 (11 females), collected by Joko Pamungkas on 19 March 2014 from Ambon Island: Lilibooi Village, West Leihitu District, Central Maluku Regency, Maluku Province (03°45'08.8"S, 128°01'24.6"E); MZB.Pol.00170 (1 male), RCLA.Ann.024 (111 males), RCLA.Ann.025 (57 females) and RCLA.Ann.026 (2 females), collected by Robert Alik on 18–19 March 2014 from Ambon Island: Suli Village, Salahutu District, Central Maluku Regency, Maluku Province (3°37'38.2"S, 128°18'25.0"E); MZB.Pol.00169 (3 males), RCLA.Ann.027 (38 males), RCLA.Ann.028 (41 females), RCLA.Ann.029 (6 males) and RCLA.Ann.030 (5 females), collected by Abraham S. Leatemia on 18–19 March 2014 from Ambon Island: Mahia Subvillage, Urimessing Village, Nusaniwe District, Ambon City, Maluku Province (3°44'42.6"S, 128°11'24.6"E). Diagnosis. Body color in alcohol cream with dark brown band on dorsum of chaetiger 2, and lighter bands on following pre-natatory chaetigers (in epitokes). All paragnaths conical, arranged as follows. Area I = 1; Area II = 14–16; Area III = 22–25; Area IV = 25–30; Area V = 0; Area VI = 6–12 (very small); Area VII – VIII = 4–6 in one line. Both male and female epitokes with natatory region extending to pygidium, yet different in number of pre-natatory chaetigers and number of modified dorsal and ventral cirri. Males having pre-natatory region comprising 16 chaetigers with basally swollen dorsal cirri on chaetigers 1–7 and basally swollen ventral cirri on chaetigers 1–5 or 6. Females having pre-natatory region comprising 19 or 20 chaetigers with basally swollen dorsal and ventral cirri on chaetigers 1–5. Males different from females in having subdistally swollen and scalloped dorsal cirri (smooth in females) and modified rosette pygidium (Pamungkas and Glasby 2015). Distribution and habitat. The species was found in Indo-West Pacific, inhabiting intertidal rocky shores. Remarks. Neanthes unifasciata swarming as nyale on Lombok Island agrees well with the species swarming as laor / wawo on Ambon Island and is one of the most common heteronereids. In the present specimens, the color intensity of the brown bands on the dorsal surface of pre-natatory chaetigers is similar (Fig. 6 E). The non-reproductive stage specimens obtained in the present work, as well as nyale, complement the collection of this species at MZB.
