1.1. The works will be conducted in accordance with CIfA's Standard and Guidance (2022, 2020a) and Management of Research Projects in the Historic Environment (MoRPHE) (Historic England 2015a). 8.2. Level 2 Historic Building Recording of Buildings 1 to 4 8.2.1. All work will comply with the CIfA Standard and Guidance for the archaeological investigation and recording of standing buildings or structures (CIfA 2022, 2020a) as well as the Historic England standard (2016). The building recording will evaluate the archaeological potential and significance of the buildings in the development area. Since the buildings are derelict, the interiors cannot be accessed, and the exteriors have limited access. For this reason, Lancashire County Council has recommended a Level 2 historic building recording. Photographs will be taken of all exterior elevations and details in accordance with best health and safety practices, which may limit the amount of information that can be recorded including measured drawings. 8.2.2. The descriptive recording (Level 2) of the mill's four outbuildings will follow Historic England guidelines and will incorporate as many elements of an analytical building recording (Level 3) as possible. It will include the elements listed below: Drawn " Sketched or measured plans as existing. " A site plan relating the building to other structures and to any related topographical and landscape features. " A plan or plans identifying the location and direction of accompanying photographs. Photographed " A general view or views of the building " The building's external appearance, " Any external or internal detail, structural or decorative, which is relevant to the building's design, development and use, with scale where appropriate. " Copies of maps, drawings, views and photographs, present in the building and illustrating its development or that of its site. The owner's written consent may be required where copies are to be deposited in an archive. Written " The precise location of the building (including the address and National Grid reference), " A note on any statutory or non-statutory designation, " The date when the record was made, the name of recorder(s) and the location of any archive material (if known), " A longer summary statement, summarising the building's form, function, date and sequence of development, and the names of architects/builders/patrons/owners (if known), " An introduction briefly setting out the circumstances in which the record was made, its objectives, methods, scope and limitations and any constraints, " Acknowledgements, " A discussion of the published sources relating to the building and its setting, an account of its history as given in published sources, an analysis of historic map evidence (map regression) and a critical evaluation of previous records of the building (if existing), " An account of the building's overall form (structure, materials, layout) and of its successive phases of development with evidence, " An account of the building's past and present use, and of the uses of its parts, with the evidence for these interpretations.
