Women were 16% less likely to receive catheter ablation than men (3.5% vs. 5.7%, P < 0.001; RR 0.84, 95% CI 0.77-0.91) and had higher adjusted hazards of incident stroke (aHR 1.24, 95% CI 1.18-1.30) and dementia (aHR 1.30, 95% CI 1.24-1.35).

In a large real-world cohort of 165,563 patients with incident AF, women experienced significant drop-offs across every step of the specialty care pathway—including a 16% lower likelihood of catheter ablation—and had higher risks of incident stroke and dementia compared with men.
