Survey identifies key barriers to research for trainees, suggesting directories and resources may improve experiences.
Trainee research is an obligatory part of specialist training. An anonymous survey involving 83 general and acute medicine advanced trainee respondents found insufficient time, knowledge and access to assistance in statistics, data management and ethics as major barriers to conducting research. Trainees desired directories of research projects, supervisors and resources developed, with access to examples of published research by trainees.
