Economic assessment of ecosystem services in Khabarovsk Territory highlights carbon sequestration and public health benefits.
The intensification of the global climate agenda has become a factor in the formation of a new direction for the development of the forest complex of Russia and its regions in the context of geopolitical uncertainty. The article considers the existing foreign and domestic approaches to the concept and classification of forest ecosystem services. Using the example of the Khabarovsk Territory, an economic assessment of ecosystem services that can be implemented during the implementation of a forest-climatic restoration project was carried out. The presented results demonstrate that combining the implementation of the carbon sequestration goal with other economic activities within the framework of a forest climate project can bring additional socio- economic and environmental benefits to the region and the population. The implementation of the forest climate project, in addition to carbon sequestration itself, will provide other ecosystem services: recreation, ensuring public health through improved air quality, improving water protection functions and water-regulating properties of forests, and providing food to the population
