Observational analysis showed increased student engagement in English courses, highlighting the role of educational app games in fostering motivation.
This study aims to explore the impact of integrating educational APP games on university students' motivation and engagement in English courses. Educational APP games were incorporated according to the course content, targeting second-year students at a private university in Kaohsiung. Through questionnaires and observational interviews, the study analyzed students' motivation and participation in English learning via the APP games. The results revealed that while APP games did not significantly affect overall English learning motivation, they had a significant positive impact on students' perceptions of future work value and expectations of success. APP games significantly enhanced students' learning engagement, including motivation, behavioral engagement, and cognitive involvement, with a more notable effect on female students. Peer collaboration and competitive elements increased willingness and motivation to participate in English learning. Educational APP games have the potential to become an effective tool for future learning support.
