Comparative analysis of luminance characteristics in asphalt concrete road surfaces reveals updated standards for road lighting.
The paper presents the results of studies of the luminance characteristics of asphalt concrete road surfaces carried out on a laboratory measuring device developed by the authors. Measurements were performed on 79 samples of road surfaces seized on the roads of five regions of the Russian Federation. With the help of a specially developed computer program, the obtained measurement data were transformed into standard tables of values of the reduced luminance coefficient (r-tables) – the main characteristic of the light reflection of road surfaces. Based on the obtained database, the r-tables most typical for the accepted coating classes were selected. The algorithm of such a choice is described. Comparative calculations of efficiency indicators for a test lighting installation have been carried out with existing coating data and those obtained because of the conducted research. It is proposed to introduce updated data into the relevant standards for road lighting.
