Investigation reveals improved smelting efficiency in cast iron using a silicon-containing alternative, suggesting better cost-effectiveness.
As an alternative to the common ferroalloys FS45 for the smelting of cast iron, a silicon-containing material is proposed, based on non-commodity (screening) fractions of magnesium-containing modifiers for the production of VCh and ChVG cast iron types. The economic scheme of the feasibility of alternative application, the features of the chemical composition and interaction of silicon-containing material with molten cast iron are given. The effectiveness of its use for smelting cast iron in electric arc furnaces has been practically confirmed.
