Qualitative discourse analyzes government in Nigeria, revealing its essence and need for curriculum review.
The search for human contrivance of social control and order debuts an authoritative mechanism otherwise known as government. In a fundament sense, the discourse subtly examined government as concept and social reality in bid to evince its conceptual and empirical imperatives. The methodology of the discourse is qualitative design with emphasis on documentary (desk review) and observational (non-participant) sources of data collection as data were textually analyzed and interpreted to illuminate realities and establish generalizations. The paper re-establishes the disciplinary relevance of government as analytic term to offer insights on its rationale, essence and limitations in contextual sense of a sovereign polity, state. The recommendations of the study spotlight the need for more research on processes of government for disciplinary and interdisciplinary relevance, review of political science curriculum on government studies in line with expectations of national development, knowledge exposure and competency in public task and call for national/regional conservation on issues around government and expectations of Nigeria nation-state.
