Study reveals distinct oxidation behaviors of brass and copper-zinc mixtures, highlighting the potential for organic acids use.
It has been established that brass and a similar mechanical mixture based on copper and zinc behave nonidentically under the same conditions during oxidation in reaction mixtures containing iodine and hydrogen peroxide. The kinetics of copper and zinc consumption in their combined presence in a mechanical mixture at different metal ratios was studied. The possibility of using weak organic acids for the oxidation of brass and a mechanical mixture of metallic copper and zinc is shown.
