The article examines the main factors that have caused changes in teaching Russian history at a technical uni-versity. The most significant factor is the changes in the personality of modern students, which are associated with the widespread introduction of digital technologies, including the inevitable impact of this factor on the cognitive capabilities of the individual. The material for the study was both theoretical work and a survey con-ducted by the authors of students of primarily technical specialties, as well as personal observations and many years of experience teaching historical subjects at Kazan National Research Technical University named after A.N. Tupolev – KAI. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the fact that the authors have made an attempt to understand the attitude of a modern student of a technical university to teaching history in order to identify prob-lems in communication between the student and the teacher. As a result of the study, it was found that in mod-ern conditions, the effectiveness of using traditional forms and tools of teacher-student interaction is steadily decreasing. The authors propose the main directions for adjusting the teaching methodology in accordance with the new tasks set for us.
