Isolation of three pregnane steroids from Pachysandra terminalis, revealing limited cytotoxic activity against human cancer lines.
Three new pregnane steroids were isolated from the whole part of Pachysandra terminalis Sieb. et Zucc., named as (17E)-3β-hydroxy-pregnane-4,6,17(20)-triene-16-one (1), (17Z)-7α-hydroxy-pregnane-3,5,17(20)-triene-16-one (2), (17E)-7α-hydroxy-pregnane-3,5,17(20)-triene-16-one (3). The structures were determined by various spectral techniques data. The cytotoxic activity against human cancer lines A549, human colon cancer cells HCT116 and SW620 of the isolated compounds was evaluated by the CCK8 methods. Nevertheless, these three compounds did not show significant activity.
