This article reveals the functions of syntactic parallelism in text, suggesting that it enhances expressive syntax and artistic coherence.
The article is devoted to syntactic parallelism, which is one of the means of expressive syntax and its functions in the text. This stylistic method is characterized by the same or similar structure of sentences or parts of sentences in the text (context) and plays a significant role in the artistry, logic and harmony of the entire text. Since syntactic parallelism is associated with several language levels (word, phrase, sentence and text), it is considered as a multifunctional, i.e., multifunctional phenomenon. In other words, this stylistic device performs not one but several functions both in a particular context and in the text: a constructive function, a rhythm-forming function, a semantic accentuation function, an expressive function, and an artistic function. These functions is interrelated. Polyfunctionality is a stylistic property of syntactic parallelism and serves as a reason to consider it an important technique of textual construction.
