Analysis reveals imaging features linked with stroke recurrence in symptomatic atherosclerotic middle cerebral artery occlusion, indicating potential for better risk stratification.
Motivation: The risk of stroke recurrence is high in patients with Symptomatic atherosclerotic middle cerebral artery occlusion(sAMCAO). Stratification of high-risk patients is crucial for reducing the risk of stroke recurrence. Goal(s): To identify the imaging features associated with stroke recurrence in patients with sAMCAO. Approach: lThe patients were categorized into a recurrence group and a non-recurrence group, and factors associated with stroke recurrence were evaluated using multivariate logistic regression. Results: Plaque enhancement, the anterior circulation of the Willis circle (COW-A), and deep tiny flow voids (DTFV) were independently found to be associated with stroke recurrence. Impact: Plaque enhancement degree, incomplete anterior Circle of Willis circulation, and absent DTFV are independently linked to stroke recurrence in sAMCAO patients. HR-MRI evaluation of the occluded vessel aids in identifying imaging markers predictive of recurrence.
