In this section, special considerations regarding vitreoretinal instrumentation when planning pediatric retinal surgery are evaluated. Instrumentation was designed considering the distinct anatomical and physiological differences in the pediatric population. Instrumentation used in the pediatric population, including eyelid speculum, scleral buckling elements, visualization systems, 25 and 27G short vitrectomy packs, and sutures, is discussed, which may include differences. In addition to instrument design, modifications and techniques used in surgical steps that differ from adults were also evaluated. With awareness of these differences, complications can be prevented and optimum treatment effectiveness may be achieved with the surgeon's operational management.
