Comparing the ocular anatomy of children and adults, there are certain dimensions and structural differences. A safer surgical method is made possible by an understanding of the major distinctions between the eyes of children and adults, and specific evaluations are required. The primary distinctions are in the locations of sclerotomies, the requirement for posterior hyaloid separation and total vitrectomy, endo-tamponade, and the surgical technique according to the vitreoretinal disease.
