This theoretical and exploratory article aims to investigate which contributions can be learned from the analysis of the development process of the Zankovian System. In order to reach this goal, the development of the work was structured in three topics. On the first topic, based on the Cultural-Historical Theory, elements are presented to promotethe understanding of what is meant by theoretical-experimental method and research. On the second, there is a short exposition of some significant aspects of Russian history that were relevant to the development of Russian education and the Zankovian System after the Russian Revolution. On the third, there is a brief discussion about the development, characteristics and foundations of the Zankovian System. It is concluded that the Zankovian System was humanistic, emphasizing on the development of children's potential, improving their conditions of thinking and learning; it had an individualized look at human development; walked the path of science; and obtained results that were considered very satisfactory for the country in overcoming its difficulties.
