To cope with the economic and political challenges posed by demographic change, politicians and researchers are discussing population policy in terms of raising the total fertility rate; however, the average maternal age is not considered. Thus, the present study examines the role of average maternal age in fiscal analysis by applying generational accounting. The results indicate that only considering aggregated indicators when assessing the impact of these demographic processes is insufficient. Instead, intergenerational aspects are particularly crucial to consider, while the parameters of concern are the relative age-specific fertility rate and the total fertility rate.
