This study delves into the intricacies of integrating renewable energy sources (RESs) into microgrids (MGs). An energy management controller based on Model Predictive Control (MPC) is proposed, with the goal of optimising the balance between electricity demand and supply, hence improving adaptability and cost reduction. The study introduces a multi-objective optimisation framework that takes into account running cost, as well as an equivalent cost for battery degradation. Simulations on a 5 MW test microgrid using YALMIP and the MOSEK solver indicate the controller's potential to improve adaptability and cost-effectiveness with energy storage integration.
