This investigation reveals improved surface hardness in tool steels after laser treatment, suggesting enhanced durability.
The formation features of the structure of carbon and alloy steels used for the manufacture of metalworking tools subjected to laser thermal hardening have been examined. It was established that the quenching of tool steels by continuous-acting gas lasers makes it possible to significantly increase the surface hardness of tool steels while maintaining the necessary viscosity of the matrix metal, ensuring high durability and operability of tools.
