Restless leg syndrome (RLS) is a common yet frequentlyunder-diagnosed condition. The exact pathophysiology isunknown, however multiple factors including geneticfactors, brain iron deficiency and dysfunction ofdopaminergic system are associated with RLS. It is a clinicaldiagnosis confirmed by International Restless LegsSyndrome Study Group (IRLSSG) consensus diagnosticcriteria (2012). Several pharmacological and non -pharmacological management options are available fortreatment of RLS. Non-pharmacological managementoptions include lifestyle modifications, therapeuticexercises (aerobic training, resistance training and flexibilityexercises), physical modalities (pneumatic compression,vibration therapy, and near-infrared light) and mind bodyapproaches (yoga, cognitive behavioural therapy,acupuncture, massage, and mindfulness). Pharmacologicalmanagement of RLS include drugs from various classesincluding gabapentinoids, dopamine agonists, opioids andiron therapy.
