Nurse-led telecoaching significantly improved heart failure knowledge (SMD 2.09; 95% CI 0.26-3.91) compared to usual care, but did not improve anxiety, depression, self-care, or quality of life.
Meta-Analysis (n=2,917)
Does nurse-led telecoaching improve anxiety, depression, heart failure knowledge, self-care, and quality of life in patients with heart failure?
Nurse-led telecoaching effectively increases disease knowledge in heart failure patients but does not translate to significant improvements in psychological well-being, self-care, or quality of life.
Standardized Mean Difference: 2.09 (95% CI 0.26–3.91)
Purpose: The current systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to investigate the effect of nurse-led telecoaching on anxiety, depression, heart failure (HF) knowledge, self-care, and quality of life of patients with HF. Method: We systematically searched PubMed, Cochrane Library, Scopus, and Web of Science from database inception to April 20, 2025, to identify randomized controlled trials comparing the effect of nurse-led telecoaching on anxiety, depression, HF knowledge, self-care, and quality of life of patients with HF. A random-effects model was adopted to pool data, and the revised RoB2 tool was used to assess risk of bias. Results: Nineteen studies with 2,917 participants were included. Compared to usual care, nurse-led telecoaching significantly improved HF knowledge of patients with HF (standard mean difference SMD = 2.09, 95% confidence interval CI 0.26, 3.91, I2 = 99.22%), but its effects on depression (SMD = −0.26, 95% CI –0.54, 0.01, I 2 = 72.12%), anxiety (SMD = −0.06, 95% CI –0.22, 0.1, I2 = 0), self-care (SMD = 0.12, 95% CI –0.61, 0.85, I 2 = 98.17%), and quality of life (SMD = −0.33, 95% CI –0.84, 0.19, I 2 = 96.77%) did not reach statistical significance. Conclusion: Findings indicate that compared to usual care, nurse-led telecoaching only improved patients' HF knowledge, but not anxiety, depression, self-care, or quality of life.
Cen et al. (Fri,) conducted a meta-analysis in Heart failure (n=2,917). Nurse-led telecoaching vs. Usual care was evaluated on Heart failure knowledge (SMD 2.09, 95% CI 0.26, 3.91). Nurse-led telecoaching significantly improved heart failure knowledge (SMD 2.09; 95% CI 0.26-3.91) compared to usual care, but did not improve anxiety, depression, self-care, or quality of life.
