Examines the impact of misinformation on youth restiveness in Nigeria, suggesting urgent solutions.
Youth restiveness remains a critical challenge in Nigeria, driven by structural and other factors. In this digital era, these factors are compounded by the rapid spread of misinformation and disinformation, especially via social media and private messaging platforms. This paper examines how misinformation and disinformation ignite and fuel youth restiveness and presents effective mitigation strategies. It draws on contemporary literature, reports, and fact-checking initiatives from multiple academic databases. The current impact of misinformation and disinformation on youth restiveness has been established and effective curbing strategies articulated. It is recommended that government, libraries and other stakeholders should urgently work out comprehensive strategies - including media literacy, platform accountability, community-driven interventions, and socio-economic reforms - to address the twin challenges of information disorder and youth instability. Youth restiveness is, in this paper, specifically mirrored from the perspective of emerging galloping tempo of both misinformation and disinformation.
